Its time to WALK the WALK....I pray that God speaks through me...
3 years ago, we started this journey toward saving our school. We vowed that we would pick up where Dr. McKenna & Mrs. LaMotte left off. We vowed that we would bring the Pride & Spirit back to Washington Prep. High School. So far, we have been successful, and I thank God for that. But family, we have miles to go before we sleep.
THE PROBLEM: Despite all of our efforts, WPHS can still become a Charter School. Yes, we are this close to becoming the next Locke & Fremont. In addition, because we are so vulnerable, large businesses and corporations are looking to bid to take over our school, not because they want to save it, but because they are following the money!
In fact, a famous business owner, had the nerve to walk on our campus, step on the “W”, then proceed to try to convince us that this was the best we could do! He said that there are no more funds through LAUSD and only HE could save us! His plan? To turn our school into a Eco-Friendly Experiment and put streams & tadpoles right down the middle of it!
As I listened, God whispered in my ear, “IF YOU DON'T STAND FOR SOMETHING...YOU WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING”
GENERALS....ALUMNI....IT'S TIME TO STAND!
THE SOLUTION: Prep n' Generals! We have made our presence known and we have made an impact on those kids! Now it's time to take it to the next level.
WE ARE A GENERAL NATION
We have over 3000 alumni on FaceBook alone! And there are thousands more!
Those kids need us, just like we needed Dr. McKenna and Mrs. LaMotte
If you don't think we have made a difference thus far, just ask: Tyki Nelworth OR the 20 kids that we sponsored to go to the prom OR the 4 Seniors that received scholarships from the C/O 1989 OR the students that now have uniforms OR the kids that received one of our Gift Cards and was able to eat that night OR ask the young man, who after graduation last June, took off his cap & gown and said, “I'M AN ALUMNI NOW”.
THESE KIDS LOOK UP TO US! WE CAN'T LET THEM DOWN!!
If somebody tries to tell you that we are NOT changing the negative stereotypes associated with our school OR If somebody tries to tell you that WE CAN'T DO THIS....Look them in eye and remind them, “THAT THE DEVIL IS A LIAR”
But, if we don't start walking NOW, all of this will have been in vain:

“Prep Pride”....WON'T MATTER

“500 Alumni in the Pit”....WON'T MATTER
